Stotan!, Chinese Handcuffs, Running Loose, and Staying Fat for Sarah Byrnes  all involve intense topics that add to the plot.  Talk about the point in which you became hooked into your book.  What did Chris Crutcher do to hook you? Describe any moment or moments in the book where you didn't want to put the book down.  What will you always remember about this book?

  1. I read running loose and the point of the book where I got hooked is when they were in the locker room and the coach was talking about the plan to hurt the other teams player that they seen as a threat. His name was Washington and he was a black kid and was very talented .I got hooked here because I wanted to see what would happen and how Louie banks would react as the person he is. i'll remember the 80s scene and how the sport was back in the day and if someone had a opposite thought they were completely wrong.

    3. I agree with you Charlie, Coach Lednecky had a riveting pregame speech, and it seemed very realistic to me, and i could see myself in Louie's shoes.

  2. I think that the point i got hooked on the book Staying Fat for Sarah Byrnes was when Sarah had admitted that her father was the reason, she had the burn scars after he shoved her face into a wood burner another reason why i got hooked on the book was when Sarah runs away from the psych ward and lives above Lemry's garage hiding from her dad.

    2. Olivia, I am also reading this and i would totally agree with you on where you got hooked. I also got hooked there when her father finally ammitded all that he has done. The second part of where sarah ran away it really caught my attention because i didnt think it was going to happen.

    3. I'm reading this book too! I was very shocked to read that Sarah actually admitted to what happened, she's usually very private about that stuff. The book is getting very good, hope you're enjoying it!

  4. the part that really hooked me was the moment when coach Ledecky came into the team meeting and told the team to hurt the running back Washington. this is when everything started to heat up. was where the team kind of split up with a couple guys wanting to do anything coach tells them and some teammates not wanting to hurt somebody. even the coaches were split on this. the tension lead to Louie's incident on the filed after boomer hurt Washington. It lead to every problem that he has faced in the book so far and that's where i got hooked. i will always remember how Louie stood up for himself even when the whole town was turned against him.

  5. The moment I was totally hooked was when Louie's post-game world went sideways with the censorship mess. Crutcher made his frustration and confusion super real, like you were right there with him. The whole committee scene? I couldn't put the book down the tension was insane. I'll always remember how the book tackles those tough issues standing up for yourself with raw honesty. It's making me think about real life stuff not just some made up story.

  6. In the book Running Loose there are a couple of parts that really engage you, but the part that stuck out to me the most was when Louie quit during the game. Louie did not like how Boomer listened to coach Lednecky and hurt Washington on purpose. This was a big turning point in the book and really made me want to keep reading since Louie would no longer play football and I never thought that he would have done that. But i am even more interested in what is yet to come for Louie Banks and how Chris Crutcher will get him through those obstacles.

    1. It took a lot of guts for Louie to stand up to the whole team and even the whole town. I cant imagine what that would've felt like.

    2. This is a very good turning point, and I agree that he had to have a lot of guts to turn against with town and even his friends.

    3. This sounds like a very important part in the book, Louie must have been wanting to quit for a while if he did it in the middle of the game

    4. I also never really expected louis to quite when i first started to read the book. I assumed all the problems would happen within the team throughout the book but i thought it was an interesting decision to make him leave all together and have to deal with other things.

    5. I agree with your opinion. This is the same part of the book I got hooked.

  8. In Running Loose, there is a large and unexpected plot twist about 2/3s of the way through the book. Chris Crutcher did a very good job at creating a mind image showing the day that Becky and Louie had together, and then the next day it was all ruined. Books don't normally make me want to keep reading, but this particular moment in the book did.

  9. While reading Staying Fat for Sarah Brynes I would say the part that hooked me most into the book was when Eric and Steve went to visit Dale at his house and Dale said "There wasn't no pot of spaghetti. You can count on that." and also when he said "Hell no. Scarface didn't tell nobody nothin'. But I know. I seen her with her dad a couple a' times, an' I know." When Dale said that it made me intrigued for what Dale meant by that because no one else those first 90 something pages about how her dad acts and how the pot of spaghetti story sounds suspicious and maybe not true. Chris Crutcher made it seem like he was just going to have Eric and Steve go on a road trip to have Dale talk to Sarah and fix her, not have Dale say his opinion or add something no one else thought would have happened to Sarah. I would say the main moments when I didn't want to put down the book was the pages I first got hooked. Along with the rest of the book after that I was interested the whole time and I did not want to put the book down because it felt like I would miss something if I did put it down. I would say the part where I didn't want to put down the book the most was when Eric was done with swim practice got in his car and then Sarahs dad told him to turn down the music. That part had my heart racing like I was in Erics place and I wouldn't know what to do. One thing I will always remember about this book is the relationships, how people acted towards others in the end of the book, everyone stood up for each other and were kind and trustworthy even if they didn't like them in the beginning.

  12. I am reading Chinese handcuffs and the point in the book where I got hooked was when the warlocks which are a bunch of people who ride motorcycles in this book, I got hooked when they started chasing Dillon. I didn't want to put the book down because I was afraid of what the warlocks were going to do to Dillon because these people on the motorcycles seem very scary and mean, but thankfully they did not end up hurting him at all. Something that I will always remember about this book is how Preston ended up killing himself especially right in front of his brother.

    2. I agree with you Cassie! That seemed like a time that Dillon did not really care either and also like he wanted those men to chase him. It is very sad to think that Preston killed himself in front of Dillon and also that some people like to make jokes about it.

  13. It was the beginning of chapter 12 that the twist came in and that really shocked me. The second page we find out that Louie's girlfriend Becky died in a car accident. She swerved out of the way for a kid on a motorcycle and hit the bridge and flew off into the riverbank. But that had the opposite affect for me on hooking me I just wanted to throw the book across the room and stop reading it because I related to that too much and hated the book at that moment and was done with it.

  14. In the book Stotan!, the part of the book that i really got interested in was when the boys Walker, Jeff, and Lion go to Norties house to grab his things so he doesn't have to live there anymore. When they went there they got his stuff to which they were shocked when Norties dad pulled a pistol on them in order to make them leave. This part definitely had me intrigued cause its when the story actually got Real.

  15. I am reading Staying Fat for Sarah Byrnes. The part of the book that hooked me in was the abuse from Sarah's father. I had never really considered that she might have lied about how she got the burns on her face. When Dale revealed what happened to her, it shocked me. I wanted to continue reading the book to see if Dale was telling the truth and when Sarah actually admitted it, it made me disgusted. Another part of the book that hooked me in was Sarah's mental health. I wanted to see why she wasn't talking to people and what the actual cause of it was. I had to skip the suicide note part because it just made me feel sick. I feel very bad for Sarah, and I hope her father goes to jail.

    3. it sounds like this book deals with some very heavy topics and makes sense as a turning point. i love how you included more than one because with something this serious it would be hard to choose just one. it also sounds like her father is a bad man who hurts her and makes sense to be a big turning point to reveal in the book

    4. This part of the book also got me hooked as well Vanessa! I also would have to agree with her father going to jail because he is an awful person and a terrible father to his daughter Sarah. I just hope he gets arrested and serves a life-sentenced in jail for abuse.

    5. I agree with your thoughts vanessa! This was the second thing that got me hooked onto the book. Do you think Sarah's dad will go to jail or do you think they will not say anything?

  16. i am reading running loose and the part that hooked me was when becky who is louies girlfriend dies. this was such an emotional chapter and everyone had different ways of coping with the loss. louie chopping down the tree was bad ass because the was he described it the tree sounded like it was massive and he said he got it done within the hour. the funeral was also very emotional for louie and i was not a fan of him freaking out at the pastor. i can understand where he came from but its still unreasonable and honestly disrespectful to do in front of everyone.

    2. This part hooked me as well! It was very unexpected, and her death will have a big impact on what happens later on. I also think that Louise reaction to the pastor during the funrerl was not right, but you can see where he is coming from, his emotions are everywhere.

  17. I am reading Chinese Handcuffs and the point where I got hooked was when Preston shot himself and also when Jens step dad was abusing her. I did not want to put the book down because I was worried for Jen and what was going to happen to her. I will always remember how scared Jen was and also how sad Preston was when stuff was going on in their lives.

    2. I was also hooked by Preston's actions and was scared for Jen. I think that it would have been really hard keeping all of the trauma in especially at such a young age. Both of the characters are very young dealing with such hard things but Jen does not let her trauma define her as a person.

    3. I would have to agree with you one that. I think it is crazy how not only did her stepdad SA her but her father as did as well and the way she copes with it is crazy to me and that is something that intrigued my mind because she seems like nothing is going on at home but in reality there was.

  18. I am reading Staying Fat for Sarah Byrnes, I think what hooked me the most was Sarah's burns on her hands and face. In our group discussion we talked about it for most of the time. We discussed how we think the burns were not from boiling spaghetti because when someone brought it up about her dad doing it to her she got very defensive. We then read that Sarah's father pushed her head onto the stove, leaving the burn marks on her face and she also has burn marks on her hand from trying to catch herself by putting her hands on the stove. After reading about this is truly did make me sick to my stomach. This was something I was not expecting in the book so I really was in shock and after hearing about this I was very hooked and did not want to stop reading.

  19. In the book Running Loose, the part of the book that made me want to keep reading was when Chris just dropped that Becky had died avoiding some kids and drove off a bridge. I never could have expected her to just die in the middle of the book like that. Chris made it feel real with the reactions of Louie and Becky's dad after her death, and it makes you want to see how Louie can continue on after losing a big part of his life. This part of the story made me want to keep reading to see how Louie continues to grow after a tragedy like this.

    2. Stotan has a similar aspect in the story about death. A character in Stotan took his life because of an abusive father. The character in Stotan was not a main character in the book like it sounds like Becky was. However, both books have a shocking death involved.

  20. While reading Stotan there have been many very intense topics. However, the one that stands out the most to me is the night of the Christmas dance. Nortie arrived late with his girlfriend. As they walked up to Walker's table to sit down, the group noticed two things about Nortie. First, he had a major black eye that was swollen shut. Also, he appeared to be high on some type of drug but was trying to hide it. Walker caught on very quick what happened and sent his girlfriend to take Nortie to the hospital. While Nortie went to the hospital, Walker and the rest of the group went to the bar where his brother hangs out and Walker left him a clear message by roundhouse kicking him in the jaw to never give drugs to his friends again. Then, they went to Nortie's house to pack up his things and move him out. Nortie's dad didn't like that and pulled a gun on them. Eventually they got Norties belongings and his mom and got them out of the house away from the constant abuse. I will always remember the effects Nortie's dad left on his family, including the brother that took his life because of it.

I thought that it was crazy how she kept that all in and I was wondering why she would not tell and all of that and this is also what kept me from putting the book down in the beginning. 26. I am currently reading Chinese Handcuffs, the part that hooked my into the book was toward the beginning when Preston's drug abuse was introduced. The effect that his abuse had on not only himself but the people around him interested me the most. Dillon struggled with seeing his brother addicted to drugs, this is displayed in the various letters Chris Crutcher included in the reading that Dillon wrote to his deceased brother, Preston. The scene that sticks out to me the most is the bar scene where drugs, sexual abuse, and alcohol abuse were displayed.

  27. I am reading Stotan and the moment I got hooked was when Nortie shared a Stotan Story to the rest of the guys, about his brother hanging himself and about how his father beat him, his brother, his mom. Chris Crutcher did a very good at painting a picture of Nortie's household and how terrible Nortie's father is to his his entire family. One moment i didn't want to put the book down was during the moment Walker found out that his brother gave Nortie drugs to make his pain go away and Walker went and found his brother and roundhouse kicked him. One moment i will never forget is Walker calling Nortie's father and blackmailing him saying that he will call the cops if he doesn't put his wife and all Nortie's things outside so they can pick it up.

  28. I am reading Chinese handcuffs and there are only a few intense topics in this book. The part that really hooked me was when Dillon the main character, and his older brother Preston went out to go shoot some bottles together. Pres was explaining to Dillon how much he hates life and that Dillon sucks up and is his dad's favorite. Then Pres holds a gun to his head and threatens to kill himself. But all of a sudden he points it at Dillon, but I think only to scare him. After Dillon and Pres talk for awhile, Pres puts the gun to his head and *bang* shot himself. Chris added really good detail and not much explanation. The suicide that Pres had reminded me of family and friends and how much they mean to me. I will remember this book by the unsteadiness of it. And what I mean by that is that it's so up and down. I like books that have action all the time because that's what draws me in. I wish it had action and action, but sadly it doesn't.

    1. As I am reading the same book, I relate to that scene of Pres's suicide hooking me. It was very interesting how Pres blamed Dillon for his death. I do wonder if we will get to hear more about Pres and if Dillon was the true reason, or he just said that in the moment. I really hope you can continue to enjoy the book and staying hooked in it.

  30. The first moment I was interested in what was going to happen next in running lose, was the race Boomer and Louis have during the mile. I hadn't really cared much about louis or the other characters yet, but I knew that Louis was a good guy and Boomer was a jerk. So when they started to race and I knew how badly Louis wanted to beat him, I couldn't help but root for him even though I hadn't really cared about Louis as a character before. Even though I had expected Boomer to win at the last second, Louis' loss really endeared me to the character and for the rest of the book It made me root for things to turn out well for him.

    1. I think those 2 characters are really good characters because it gives us really the 2 different sides of football, boomer who wants to just win at all cost and Louie who plays just to have fun and get better

    2. That race really was a good moment. With all the build-up through the summer training, and the description of how the race was going, one would expect Louie to win in that moment, but just having Boomer beat him at the last second somehow makes it an even better point in the story.

  31. The Book I am currently reading is Running Loose and I think the biggest twist in this book that got me hooked is definitely the part where Becky got in the car accident it really was just so surprising and didn't see it coming since Louie and Becky were so close together just before the accident it really was just a twist and surprised me and changed my view on the book and am now hooked

    1. This part of your book sounds very interesting and i think i would have enjoyed reading about this it kind of sounds like a character in Stotan Named Nortie his brother killed himself and they were also very close with each other and it heavily affected Nortie in my story too.

  32. the book i am reading is Chinese Handcuffs, the part that hooked me was when Jennifer was talking about what she has to go through at home and not only did it happen once but 2 times with 2 different men. I want to keep reading to find out if Dillon with go against her when she says to not tell anyone even though he is determined to find her help.

    1. This seems like an interesting book, but it seems like it could be a very hard read... do you find yourself having to put the book down because of the impact it leaves?

    2. i am also reading chinesehandcuffs and no the parts are hard to read but its also weird to read i am not to into this book and i dont think its my style of reading. i dont think dillion will go against what jen says becasue he doesnt want to upset her or lose her as a friend.

  33. I am reading Chinese Handcuffs and the moment i got hooked was when Preston killed himself in front of Dillion which was a bog shocker to me. From the beginning it tells you about Preston's death and just wondering up until that point of how it went down just kept me wanting to read more. Also another point that drew me in was the part with Jen and what she was going through with her step father and everything and i just wanted to continue reading to see what Jen and her friends would do about the situation. In this book i will always remember how Jen mentally checks out in the situations with her step father which is mind boggling to me that she taught herself to do that.

  34. I am reading Staying Fat For Sarah Byrnes and the moment I got hooked was when Sarah admitted how she got the scars on her hands and face. She finally admitted that her father was the reason that she has burn scars on her face and hands. After her father shoved her hands and face into a wood burner. There is another scene in the book that got me hooked on the book is when Sarah escapes the psych ward and runs away and runs to Lemry's garage and is where she is hiding from her dad who will bring her back to the psych ward. After reading this part it truly made me sick to my stomach on how her father abused her. This part in the book was something I was not expecting and I was in shock after reading this part and I did not want to stop reading.

    1. It is really good that you got hooked in the book, and the scene sounds really interesting. To me sometimes the most powerful scenes with the most emotion can get someone really hooked. I might have to check out the book and read it on my own time. I really hope you can continue to enjoy your book and to be hooked in it.

  35. I am reading Chinese Handcuffs. I got hooked in the book after Preston's suicide. It made me want to keep reading to see what would happen after and to see what else would unfold after his death. At the beginning of the book Pres was dead and it showed how Dillon was coping, but after his death it and the memory behind it, the pieces of his life that we learn about in the first few chapters make more sense of when and why they happened. Chris made the pieces fall together after Pres death and made everything make sense after words. It shows how Dillon is cooping and the problems he is facing in his life. I didn't want to put the book down after that point because after that scene, everything I read in the previous chapters all clicked together. In this book I will take away that you never know what someone is going through. With Jen and T.B. and how Jen has perfect grades and is really good at basketball, and Dillon with the death of his brother. It just shows that it is better to be kind, because unless you know what someone is going through, never assume anything. Never be rude because words can hurt someone, and to think before you act.

  36. In running loose, the moment that hooked me was when Becky died in a car accident. It completely changed the story. Chris Crutcher built up Becky and Louies relationship, they really cared about each other. Her sudden death was real shocking, and the way Louie reacted made me not want to put it down even more. This event shows different sides of character which are also really hooking on me, such as Boomer showing kindness and caring for Louie, which I would never expect. I will always remember how unexpected her death was and the reactions from different characters.

    1. I really do agree, the moment Becky died was a major turning point in what could've been considered a relatively upbeat story so far (other than the given attempt at Washington and those events). I also really did love seeing Boomer have some character development, because it is truly entertaining to watch a bully and someone who has made a character's life hell, turn into someone who is kind to the character and comforts them in difficult times.

  37. In the book Staying Fat for Sarah Byrnes, the first few chapters were very confusing! I was unsure of if I was going to be able to stick with the book. I am very very very happy that I stuck it out, around chapter 6 is when I absolutely fell in love with the book. I would say this is when the answers to all the questions from the beginning came out. This is when I became hooked, i never wanted to put it down. I would say Chris Crutcher hooked me because so many cliff hangers and so many of the answers were provided! He made it interesting to read because there was so many different things going on and then he was able to unfold everything! I did not want to put the book down when I found out the truth about Sarah Byrnes and her father. Another part was the way he kept the story interesting throughout the entire book, even during the confusing pieces. I will forever remember this book because of the impact it left on me, just the story line was just so surprising and I just fell in love with the way Chris Crutcher writes! I am interesting in reading some of his other books!

  38. While reading Stotan, there has been many intense topics that happen in the book such as Norties father abusing him and the rest of his family. The abuse that was happening was so bad that it caused Norties brother to kill himself. The point that hooked me the most was when Nortie did drugs and he felt like he needed to come clean so he told Max but max did not care which surprised be because he's a coach and should care. This point in the book made me confused because usually if one of my coaches heard i did drugs they would be extremely mad and not calm like max was. Chris Crutcher put sensitive topics in the book to hook me because it caused me to feel bad for the characters in the story.

    1. I disagree, i do not think there have been many intense topics in the book. Nortie's abusive dad problems is about the only thing that is intense in my opinion. I do agree with you, a turning point for Nortie was when he admitted to coach that he did drugs.

    2. i agree the story about Norties brother really hooked me because you just have to feel bad abt Nortie going through all of the beatings with his bother together then suddenly being left taking the beatings alone

  39. In Staying Fat for Sarah Byrnes the point that got me hooked is when Sarah Byrnes told Eric that her dad burned her on purpose. Chris Crutcher had Eric and Sarah Byrnes talk about how her dad burned her face on purpose, Sarah Byrnes dad was an alcoholic and abused her mom and Sarah Byrnes tried to intervene but instead it turned into a rage and her dad burned her face. I didn't want to stop reading the book and put it down when I found out Sarah Byrnes dad burned her face on purpose and the reasoning on why he did burned her face because it just kept drawing me into the book more and more. I'll always remember the part where Mark and Eric almost had a fight because Mark called Jody a really bad word and Eric wasn't having it and Eric also said to himself he may go ahead and try to take Mark out for insulting Jody, but that's because Mark tried warning Eric about Jody Saying Eric could believe him or find out for himself, and Eric said he'd find out for himself.

  40. In the Book Stotan it starts out very slow and nothing really happens but the moment I got hooked was when Nortie tells the story of his 13-year-old Brother hanging himself because of their abusive father and really sets the tone and portrays the type of household that Nortie lives in. Norties dad's abusiveness is what drives some of his behavior in the story and he always seems to circle back about how he doesn't want to be like his father and exhibits behaviors of that. I always remember this part of the story because it's one of the only interesting moments from the entire story

    1. I said the same thing, i thought the book was way to slow at the start and even the middle of the book was short. I do feel bad for Nortie, i do not think anyone should ever have to go through that kind of treatment.

      Delete
    2. I also was very interested with this situation mainly because Nortie decided not to read the note his brother left him for awhile and it really makes you feel bad for Nortie even more after this whole situation. Plus him and his brother were very close and really were going through the beatings from there dad together.

  41. I'm going to be brutally honest, I do not like Stotan. It starts off way too slow, and from the point I'm at rn nothing has really happened. The only events that have actually caught my interest was Stotan week, when the guys went through rigorous training, and When Walker, Jeff, and Lion grabbed Norties stuff from his house when he was in the hospital. I will always remember Not liking Chris Crutcher. I will probably never read one of his books becasue they are a waste of my time and money. I'd rather read the newspaper so i can actually learn something than sit and read a pointless story.

  42. I think the moment that I was fully hooked into Staying Fat For Sarah Byrnes was when we learned about the friendship between Sarah and Dale. Getting to know the truth about what happened to Sarah was crazy to me because it was something you would never expect I feel like, so when finding out from Dale it made me not want to put the book down and keep reading to find out more. Another thing was when Eric went to see Sarah and told her what Dale said and she whipped her head so fast and looked at him. The note she wrote him telling him everything made me not want to put my book down either, it was so interesting.

  43. I am reading Staying Fat for Sarah Byrnes and the part that got me hooked was when Sarah left the psych ward and started living with Lemry. I feel that is what really put the book into action which is a shame because that is past the halfway point in the book. It shows that Sarah truly does not feel safe anywhere, but she is willing to do whatever it takes to get her mom back. Sarah must have been scared when the nurses at the psych ward discovered she could talk and that is why she bolted. It also shows that Lemry actively cares about Eric, due to the fact she is willing to take in Sarah and no report anything to CPS

    1. Yeah that kind of feels like a common theme with Chris Crutcher's books. Running looses big "twist" literally happens 2/3 of the way through the book, and while i was enjoying it enough before, i wish we had more time to let it sink in and see how it affects the characters.

    2. I think that when she left the hospital was put in a good place in the story. However I can see how that's where it started to get interesting so it would suck.

  44. i am reading chinese handcuffs and last week was pretty weird. jens mom had left jens dad and she got some new boyfriends and they all sexually assulted jen just like her dad but jens mom doesnt beleive her they this keeps happeneing. and her dad supposed uable saved a puppy that was getting ran over in the street but then showed her a poloriod of him holding the dog down in the streets. so that was very striking to me that he would do that. i find jens had discusing by the things he did to jen his own daughter and him holding a puppy down in the street to get ran over i find him evil and discusting. also i wonder if jen and dillion are going to go any where, they went on a date and it was awkward but hten at the end of the date they had a good talk. but i also think that maybe dillion just likes having someone to hang out with and talk to, i dont really think he loves jen i think he just likes the company.

  45. The part of the book where I started getting the most interested in book was when Sarah kicked Dale out of their friend group because he was saying things about what she tells people on how she got her scars is not true. I got interested in that part because from the beginning I thought that the scars where from something else. I also thought from the beginning that her dad was worst then what was being told. I thought that we were going to find out what really happened was Dale said that.

  46. I am reading Running Loose, and I think the major point where I got hooked was during the football game, after Boomer had tried to get Washington out of the game permanently. It just really stood out to me how Louie took his stand against Lednecky and Boomer, as well as all the events that followed. I really do think that without this moment, the book wouldn't have nearly as much of a purpose, or rather a theme, for making Louie hold so strong to his morals and beliefs. Something I will always remember about this book is that even when everyone is telling you to move out of the way, when everyone is telling you that what you believe is wrong, that you just need to plant your feet and do what you believe is right, just like Louie.

  47. i am reading the book Stotan and the part of the book that hooked me in was when they were introducing the backstory of Nortie and all his home issues he has. Especially the part when his brother killed himself and left him a note but Nortie chose not to read it right away and left it for later. Another very interesting key point in the story was when we learned that when Lions parents were alive his dad was an alcoholic and always came home drunk which makes me think that if Lions parents didn't die he could have been in the same situation as Nortie with a terrible father. But i think it was almost good in a way that they died because he really grew and didn't have to deal with his potentially alcoholic dangerous father for the rest of his life

    1. I like your look on this a lot. I also chose norties story as the part that hooked me, but i didn't think about lions. I think you are right about the part where if his parents didn't die his story would be similar to norties. its a really interesting take that i agree with.

  48. For Stotan! i really started somewhat enjoying the the book (not a big fan of the book) was halfway. I feel like once there training really started getting hard and new stuff was popping up (seems like at random) like why does so much bad stuff happen to Nortie? Just give him a break. I want to know more about the characters but it seems like he just wants us to feel bad for them insteadd of getting to really know them.

  49. I'm reading stotan! and i feel like when i got hooked was when we got to learn more about norties life. Its kind of the more interesting things that going on. I feel terrible about he has to go through and what he endured but without this story, there wouldn't be much happening in the book at all. All of this talk about his brother committing suicide and nortie loosing his dream of becoming a teacher because he doesn't want to turn into an abuser like his dad, is heartbreaking. I want to keep reading because i want him to find peace and feel like he can be a normal person without all this baggage weighing him down.

  50. I am reading Running loose by Chris Crutcher and I think the most intense part of the book is when the coach told his players to take out the opposing teams star quarterback. It shows what kind of coach Lednecky is and what kind of players he has if they go through with it. Washington did end up getting hurt and had to exit the game and Louie felt awful about it.

  51. i read Statan and the point that hooked me was when the team and max were going to there state qualifying meets and Walker got to see a side of max that he never thought would exist when he saw max playing with his daughter in the snow he knew it just had to be important to Max. this part hooked me soo much because chris crutcher used the mysterious nature of max as a buildup to this point and then he releases all that mysterious aura that Max has for the entire book and just let it dissipate in that yard when Max was playing with his daughter
